Republicans want Dems to fail. Republicans (and some "centrists") are saying the President lost Ted Kennedy's Massachuttets Senate seat to a Republican because he has been acting so "left". We shouldn't listen to them. The truth has far from it, the Presidents, and Congressional Democrats, have been acting like republican-lite (in Deans old words). They have been the party of beyond comprimise and have dispressed voter turnout in their base for it. If we followed the Repugs "advice" we would even lose more elections (if that is even possible). Voters wanted change. Obama ran against Bush. Yet he has been implimenting some of the same Bu$h policies like suspending habeous corpus. The soultion is simple, Dems need to develop a backbone and stand up for the interests that elected them in to office. Otherwise why should liberals vote?

Thanks Jeff Merkley for being an amazing new Senator, standing up for the people, not the powerful interest groups like big insurance. I am proud he is the new Senator from my state. He has impressed me.

Also thanks for Al Franken for his speech at the Sotomayor Judicial Committee confromation hearing. He blasted the Roberts court for not protecting individual liberties, something more rare now the many are in the pockets of big business.

Doesn't the increased cost of trans-world transportation displace/make up for the monetary gain of comparative advantage? If comparative advantage is a farce than global trade does not make a sum wealth and is therefore purely exploitation.

At the very least, cross-world transportation cuts into the creation of wealth for all, minimizing the pertinency/value of this argument for globalization justification and comparatively increasing the value of the exploitation or redistribution of wealth argument as a cause/motivator for globalization.

Then she said: "I think the people that Barack Obama has been associating with are anti-American, by and large."

Sounds a little like "You're either with us or against us".

Hey all! I have been having difficulty signing into to my blogger account. I have finally signed in! This is the first post since December 8, 2006. What a long time it has been.

The media has sure been picking up the the ACORN story but why hasn't it picked up the Young Political Majors story? I found 17 million results for ACORN but 1.9 million for Young Political Majors story in a simple search on google. why is this story so under-reported? Is it because republicans have been crying voter fraud for at least the 8 years and now they finally have a story so they can disenfranchise even more voters? Voters were being struck from the polls (not being allowed to vote or having their vote cast out) in the hundreds of thousands in the swing states of Ohio and Florida in the past eight years. (and many years before that too). This is a key republican strategy which is the reason the GOP was actually able to win elections, and win handily, when more voters are registered democratic than republican. VOTER SUPPRESSION is one main key tactic of the republican party and their are quite skilled at it through many differant methods.
One Method that was used in Ohio in 2004 and in other elections is phone banking voters and giving intentionally wrong voting information. Info such as giving the wrong polling place, falsely stating that they need certain identification, giving wrong dates, etc. These tactics are targeted toward groups and individuals who are IDed to heavily favor their opponent. There is ample evidence of this and if I have more time later, I will post links here.
Other methods...... Striking from the rolls, ohio blackwell, florida voters misidentified as felons- purged from rolls (reg/eligible database) etc

The Republican "send spin"-to-receptive-media-outlet system is immensely effective. Here is a current example.
1. Every time Defense Secretary Robert Gates is mentioned, there is a comment on how he says "we are not winning in Iraq"(which it seems is the popular thing to say now, thank you polls. everyones saying this nowadays, when they all were for it not long ago (see WTO as well) I love Politicians who change with the polls.), but it is rarely mentioned that he was the #2 man in the CIA through IRAN-CONTRA!!.

I had two less known large issues that I was going to post about a while ago, but I forgot what they were. Sorry.
Today I saw Oregon Sec. of State Bill Bradbury do Al Gore's presentation on Global Warming and our destruction of that only humans can wreak. I also had a good talk with Ashland City Council member, David Chapman. We talked about alternative energy investment proposals. He also said I should get on the Ped and Bike Commission. (I am currently filling out an application for SOU liaison to the Forest Plan Commission.)

Also, Thursday I saw the CEO of Lithia Motors, had a good talk with Jackson County Commissioner, Dave Gilmour about campaign strategy, and met a strategist named Kathy who wrote a book called Managing Campaigns? and is going to give a lecture at Stanford on campaign management. I also was elected Alternate Delegate to the Democratic Party of Oregon and will start a SOU College Dems club.

Another thought, too bad Feingold is not running for President!! He would have been the only candidate that voted against the war, against the patriot act and for a truly new direction, not money politics as usual. (He co-sponsored the fameous McCain Feingold Campaign Finance Refrom Bill) He is always ahead of the curve. He was against the war when it was unpopular. He was one of the first to speak up.

Dean deserves credit for dem win not Schumer, Emanuel

Chuck Schumer and Rahm Emanuel, chairmen of the DSCC and the DCCC respectively, do NOT DESERVE credit for the Democrats' wins of both houses of Congress. Consequently they have hurt the Democrats in this election by not just taking sides, but vigorously supporting candidates in the Primary and burning up cash and the purpose of party members, -to decide who represents them in the party. This is an insult to Democratic party members by violating our democratic process and taking it upon themselves to decide who should win the primary.

Dean's 50 state strategy is what is responsible for the Democrats taking control of the house. I will tell you why...
The house races the democrats won were in "surprisingly" competitive districts. Districts that got tight closer to election day.
This is because in the races that had been predicted close for a long time, the Republican get-out-the-vote machine was inplace and they saved many of these seats. (See Deborah Pryce -OH, Christopher Shays -CT, etc putmorein)
About a week before election day the districts deemed competitive expanded. This was most definitely aided by Howard Dean's 50 state strategdy. Winning in places that we never thought we would win. (senate: virginia, montana, Tennessee, missouri, //house Kansas, North Carolina, Wyoming, Arizona, etc.. )
